About our Founder and Creative Director: Sarah A. Abdallah

New York Interior Architect Sarah A. Abdallah has spent twenty-five years shaping some of the most iconic hospitality, residential, and cultural spaces in the world. With a résumé that runs through Rockwell Group, Tony Chi, Perkins Eastman, Grand Life Hotels, Sara Bengur and Glen & Co — her project record reads like a register of the world's most leading brands: The Ritz-Carlton, Park Hyatt, Edition Clock Tower New York, The Intercontinental, The Soho Grand, Shangri-La Fort Manila, and Lincoln Center. In residential and mixed-use, it extends from the award-winning amenity spaces at 15 Hudson Yards and Waterline Square to NeueHouse Los Angeles and Battersea Power Station in London.

Yet the foundation of her practice was laid long before any of it. Sarah trained in psychology and fine arts before she trained in interior architecture — and the sequence shaped everything that followed. Spaces, to Sarah, was never about colors, patterns, and textures. As an interior architect, she works in the variables that act on the human system — air quality, acoustics, light, proportion, material — whether the occupant ever notices them or not. Born in New York and rooted in Cairo, she traces her lineage to Egypt's Siwa Oases - also known as Wahet — desert communities that were engineering wellbeing millennia before it became a market category. Thermal mass, courtyard shade, salt, sand, silence: not aesthetics, but survival systems that happened to be beautiful. She grew up inside proof that environment regulates the body, because for generations it had to.

When wellness became an industry, the design community answered with an aesthetic and a menu of disconnected wellness offerings. Functional Creative Design was founded on the opposite premise: a space is either designed as a fully integrated system that helps the human body thrive — or it isn't.

The studio's method, The 360 Human, treats a space the way a therapist treats a person: one interconnected system of body, energy, and environment. Every engagement begins with the Wellness Design Sprint and is carried from concept through built completion by one accountable team — the standards, sequencing, and discipline of delivery she mastered at the highest tier of hospitality, now in service of a single question: what is this space doing to the body inside it?

Her conviction is unambiguous: an environment is either healing its occupants or draining them. She built the practice for clients who understand there is no neutral room
