Welcome to the Functional Creative Design
The way we experience hotels, restaurants, and workspaces is changing.
We're here to document why — and what comes next.
Something fundamental is shifting in how people choose where to stay, where to eat, and where to work. Wellness is no longer an amenity. It is the expectation. And the hospitality and design industries are only beginning to catch up.
At Functional Creative Design, we have had a front-row seat to this shift. We are a New York-based interior architecture studio specializing in luxury and wellness-driven design — and for over a decade we have been shaping hotels, restaurants, private membership work spaces, and luxury residences across the US and internationally. We have watched wellness move from spa menus to master planning. From a room feature to the entire reason someone books a trip.
This Blog is where we explore what that means.
We will be writing about the future of hospitality design — how the boundaries between hotel, wellness retreat, and community space are dissolving. How food and beverage environments are being redesigned around ritual, not just service. How the most forward-thinking developers are using biophilic design, sensory architecture, and cultural storytelling to create experiences that guests carry home with them.
This is not a design trends space. It is a conversation about how the built environment shapes human behavior — and how the hospitality industry is being transformed by people who finally understand that. And to be clear, this is not our first time at this table. More than eight years ago, we were already thinking, writing, and speaking about the intersection of wellness and design — long before it became the industry's buzzword. You can explore our founder's writing on under Press and read the piece Sarah wrote for Elle Arabia back in 2018 — both of which connect many of these ideas and show where this thinking began.
We are glad you found us.
